Principles of Design Poster Critique

I like The Office poster, it has the balance of the 5 different types of  handwriting for the 5 different people in the room. The handwriting is written on a post-it note and each note is placed below or near the person it corresponds with, giving the poster symmetrical balance. This poster has a simple rhythm and good contrast, which really makes the black outfits stick out more against the window and wall. Since the poster has people in it the proportion is very important, I think the poster has good proportions in regards to the people in the poster. The Office poster is one of my favorite posters in the room and now that I have really analyzed the principles of designs involved in that poster I appreciate it even more.

Helvetica Documentary

I found this documentary to be very informative, and kind of interesting. Because of watching this I am  more aware of the different types of font that are shown in public places.  I learned about the process of how people who create fonts, create the fonts. It was kinda interesting to learn that it is better when creating a font to use white on the actually letters and black inside the letters.

For this project we took a picture of ourselves and then drew over the features of our face to come up with a drawing of ourselves (self portrait). once we had finished that we then were able to add color to the picture to make it look more inviting and interesting. It's not completely finished but still looks pretty good. :)

self portrait brick wall

original photo

photoshopped image

For this exercise we had to take our picture and change the background to the brick wall. To do that you have to make a layer mask and then you are able to paint over the green shown in the original picture. once you get rid of all the green then we added the layer that had just the plain brick wall we were then able to make any adjustments needed to make the background look like it wasn't photoshopped. to help get rid of the green glow i used curves and levels, then i used the healing tool to get rid of any unwanted blemishes.

Modified Photo
For this exercise we learned how to use the clone tool. We had to get rid of all the tree branches that can be seen in the original picture. After using the clone tool to get rid of the branches we were aloud to make changes to the levels, and curves of the picture. At the very end i cropped the picture to help get rid of some of the places that didn't look as realistic

The clone tool is a very cool tool, it can also be very tedious to use. since it replicates the pixels you select it can start to look bad, so you have to make sure you don't keep using the tool in the same place.

Random Picture
Balance: it has a good sense of balance and i think that is achieves balance by being symmetrical.

Proportion: This picture shows a vast space of water and land. we can tell by looking at the picture that it huge area.

Rhythm: this picture has a good sense of rhythm, it may make the person looking at it think about a slow moving river during a nice hot day. it has a flowing rhythm.

Emphasis: I think the emphasis is mainly on the water, by looking at the water you can actually see the whole picture. Also the vibrant blue color reflected from the sky is eye catching.

Unity: This picture has a very constant use of the colors blues and green, with the reflection of the land in trees on the water along with the sky it creates unity.

Flower

this is the original flower picture.
this is a copy of the flower above.
In the original image you can see the envelope and some other piece of paper. The picture below i cropped out parts of the envelope and some open space that can be seen in the picture. I felt that the open space and all the paper that can be seen in the picture took away from the flower and neckless. After cropping the picture we worked with changing the colors of the picture, which i felt made the flower a little different and more exciting.

The last and final steps taken in creating the picture below was changing the exposure. We were able to chose weather we wanted the picture to be over exposed, or having more or less shadow. I chose to have more shadow added in the picture giving it the look you see now.

me!! :)

Two words people would most likely use to describe me would be shy and quiet, all though those are true at times, they don't describe me very correctly. I am only shy when i first meet you, get to know me and you find that I can be kinda weird at times and find some simple thing fascinating :). i have a fetish for British or Australia accents, and hope to travel/ live in those places in the future. another thing you will learn about me soon after meeting me is that I am a really bad speller and will often ask new friends (and old ones) how to spell words.
